27. underlined in red: A LARGE LOUIS XVI GREY MARBLE CONSOLE. The friezes are of minutely chased gilt bronze ivy leaves, tambourines and arrows. It rests on four grey marble legs richly decorated with gilt bronze garlands of flowers. The mounts are by Gouthiere. It is illustrated in Molinier's "Le Moblier au XVII et au XVIII Siecle." It was formerly in the collection of Comte Boni de Castellane and is rightly considered one of the most beautiful examples of Louis XVI furniture known. 165,000.


63. underlined in red: A WHITE MARBLE GROUP REPRESENTING VENUS AND ADONIS. By Palconet. Venus holds a garland of roses in her hand with which she is crowning Adonis who stands on a cloud at her side. A dog and two doves are at their feet. Formerly in the collection of Sir Edward Scott. 110,000.


37. underlined in red: A PAIR OF LOUIS XVI UPRIGHT SECRETAIRES. With fall-down fronts, each having a large circular plaque. One plaque is painted with a marble slab on which is a group of fruit and flowers to which a dog is attracted. The other panel is very similar but a cat replaces the dog. The plaques are mounted in fine gilt bronze frames on amboyna wood panels. Finely chased gilt bronze friezes ornament the upper and lower parts of the secretaires. The secretaires are the work of Adam Weisweiller, Menusier-ebeniste, established in the Faubourg St. Antoine, Paris, and was received into the Corporation of Cabinet Makers, Paris, 1778. 65,000 each [end of page 7]
