They are I think as fine examples of Tintoretto's portraiture as are to be found anywhere. They are so much alike in conception that they would almost join? by being separated and it struck me that if you would buy the two the Museum might take one and you might keep the other. AS you know the Museum has at present absolutely no finds so I wondered whether you wld let us have one on loan till next year when we could certainly acquire it. The price at which I can set them is exceptional namely $pounds symbol 2000 for the two delivered out of Italy. It is a chance not to be lost. I think they are in Tintoretto\s portraiture the equal of yr. El Greco and wld make a fine complement to that.
