January 8, 1912. Messrs. Duveen Brothers, 302 Fifth Avenue, New York. Gentlemen: As I stated to your Mr. Joseph Duveen, the vases, four at my house in New York and two at my house in Prides, had better be taken way, as I do not desire to purchase them. I enclosed herewith copy of memorandum made at the time I purchased the Gainsborough and Romney from your Mr. Joseph Duveen. He requested that I send you a copy as it seems he did not keep one. Yours very truly,
