They (Knoedler & Colnaghi) are asking £12,000 for it & in my opinion it is a superb masterpiece eminently worthy of yr. collection. It has not the charm of late art but it has the finest possible feeling for character and consummate ?? in design. I shd. like to see you possess this. I don't think the price excessive considering that there are only 10 other portraits known by Van der Weyden I think he was almost the equal of Van Eyck. If you wish to secure this you had better do so by cable as I know that ?? has interested himself in selling it to another American collector.

I feel able to give you this uncalled for advice freely because both pictures are in Knoedlers hands but I would rather you didn't allege my opinions if you can easily avoid it.
